can an online game retailer's customer service legally refuse to help and ignore me when I'm asking for help?

There are no specific laws making it "illegal" for an online game provider to have lousy customer service. The question is whether or not you have a legal remedy.

If you are like most online gamers and play for free, there isn't much you can do besides complaining in the use forums or post a negative review on a website like Yelp. If you pay to play the game, you might have claim for breach of contract. But other than a refund of your money, you wouldn't really be entitled to much else.

I agree; unless you have some kind of contractual right, no court is going to give you any assistance against the game retailer. It may be bad business, but it's not unlawful.
