Legal Question in Business Law in California
The opposing party in a case I have has filed a motion. The hearing date is August 28th. How many days before the hearing do I have to file my answer? 5 days before the hearing? 10 days? What is the deadline to file an answer?

I assume you are in a California superior court, and not a United States District Court.
Under this assumption, your opposition is due nine COURT days (not calendar days) before the hearing date.
That depends on what court you're in and what kind of motion was filed. Oppositions to most motions in California state courts are due nine court days before the hearing as Mr. Perry says. In federal court, the due date is usually fourteen calendar days before the hearing. There are a number of reasons why these general rules sometimes don't apply. If you can, you should discuss your situation in more detail with a lawyer to make sure you don't miss the due date.
Good luck.
