Legal Question in Business Law in California

Is oral/verbal acceptance of a contract binding?

I have a contract for work with a school district which was approved orally 32 days after they received it. At the last minute they want to back out. I'm now tied to the area in which I was supposed to be working. Is the contract binding based upon their oral acceptance? Please avoid the reference to ''maybe'' in your response.

Sorry, but the answer is "maybe". Without knowing what the contract says or how you became "tied to the area", that's the best anyone can do.

Even if the oral acceptance didn't create an enforcable contract, your subsequent actions may have done so under an equitable doctine called promissory estoppel. I would need to know more facts before I could say whether it applies in your case.
