Legal Question in Business Law in California

My partner invested money with me to start a bulldog breeding. He invested money for me to buy a few pups. I didn't get the pups . now he wants to sue me for his lost plus much more for lost breeding. What if i dont show up to court. What will happen to me.

Well, this begs the question, what then did you do with the money? If, for example, you spent on yourself then you may be looking at criminal action as well as civil. If it is just a civil suit and you do not show up, a judgment will be entered by default against you. The judgment will then have to be enforced. For example, they can try to seize any money in your bank accounts, they can get an order of wage garnishment so if you have a job that pays you by check they can force your employer to take payments out of your wages. If you have any assets they can try to seize them to satisfy the debt and of course the credit bureaus pick up the judgment so it will tank your good credit if that is relevant.

If you are "judgment proof" meaning no assets, no money to speak of, etc. then you likely have little to worry about unless it turns into a criminal matter, which is at least possible based on the little facts we have.
