Legal Question in Business Law in California

Product endorsements

A friend works at company that just developed a new product. I have been asked to endorse the product. I have seen it, and I like it; it really works. The product concerns life safety. What should my concerns be? Legally, what does endorsing a product mean?

Re: Product endorsements

Generally, endorsing a product is only saying that you like it and is usually not the basis for any liability on your part. There are some issues raised by your question and to be on the safe side you might want have someone look at what they want you to say. A couple of rules of thumb I would look for if I were asked to look at some copy: Make sure what you say is true. Your statements should not go beyond what you personally know. The language should be carefully worded so as not to imply any kind of guarantee or representation by you that goes beyond your own knowledge.
