Legal Question in Business Law in California

hello. i had a question about what my employer is having us do. I work at a gym and there are certian times of the day that we are pretty busy ( right after people drop off kids at school and right as people are getting out of work). we tend to find that there is no parking at this time. so our employer is making all the employee's park on a residental street, so there is more room for the members. the street that they have us parking on is not well lit, and i dont feel safe walking to my car at night after my shift. can they make us park on a street and not in our parking lot? i really appreciate it. thanks so much

Frankly I'm not sure if they can make you park in a place outside of your parking lot. The answer to that question may depend on whether they own the lot, whether it is shared with other businesses, and other issues. But...they cannot make you park somewhere unsafe. If they are forcing you to park in an inadequately lit area at night, they should be providing you with an escort to your car or change the rule. They may not put you in harms way. This is especially so if there is any history of trouble with parking in this area.
