Legal Question in Business Law in California
We were quoted a price for a leased car with a down payment over the phone by a salesman
who represented the dealership - It was all done by phone and we left to get the car that same day -
Upon arriving at the dealership and after a 2 hour wait we were told the deal had changed - A
small ugly encounter occurred and the manager actually backed out of the deal - Can a company actually decline a quote that they verbally agreed to over the phone (bait&switch) without any
ramifications - Thank you -
1 Answer from Attorneys
Many --- Many ---- Many auto delaers will say one thing on the phone JUST TO GET YOU IN THE DOOR. Then the deal changes. It is a form of false advertising or, as you said, "bait and switch". It is illegal. Yet , many people just agree to teh new deal because they want the car. Others, like yourself, leave and vow never to go back.
Call the local DMV investigators and/or the BBB and file a complaint. Let the DMV handle what it is paid to do.
Good lluck.
