can i use a registerd agent for this

hey, since i can't use a p.o. box # as my business location when filing a sole proprietorship form. Can I use a registered agent instead?

I f not what else can I do?

What about a storage location?

You don't say what sole proprietorship form you are talking about - Schedule C? Sole proprietors don't have registered agents in general. Repost with better wording to your question.

If you are asking about filing a fictitious business name statement, then as I read Business and Professions Code section 17913, an individual applicant intending to operate a sole proprietorship business must register BOTH his or her residence address AND the location in California of the principal place of business. Obviously use of an agent does not meet the explicit requirement of the law. Use of registered agents is for corporaions and LLCs which are NOT using fictitious names. The purpose of the law is to allow process servers and the like to find YOU. The whole purpose of the registration is tom ake your whereabouts and that of your business transparent. You cannot, ergo, use a storage location as an address unless you are running the storage business and that is indeed where you operate it. There is a rather severe penalty (misdemeanor) for giving false information. Your alternative may be to use your real name to operate the business, in which case there is no need to register.
