Do I need a release to put a photo of someone on a blog?

Unless the person is a public figure it will be best to obtain permission.
The other attorney is right on point here. To avoid invasion of privacy, etc. issues it is also best to obtain consent. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.

In addition to the privacy issues, you need to consider copyright - did you take or create the picture, or did someone else?
The attorneys above are correct. You should have this person sign a release agreement allowing you to use their image and likeness. Also, if you were not the one taking the photo, you should have a separate agreement with your photographer to assign the copyright to the images that they took to you.
Contact an attorney in your area to help you draft such a document. Or contact my office for a free consultation.
