Retention of files

How long must a office keep a clients closed file. We understand anywhere from 6-10 years. Is there a code tthat supports this?

Your question is too vague. Tax records must be kept for 3 years, but some for longer.

Real Estate brokers are required to keep files for 3 years.

You need to be more specific.

There is no definate time. It depends on your industry. For tax purposes 7 years is probably satisfactory. There are many different things to consider such as possible lawsuits, future use of the data, storage costs, etc.
