Legal Question in Business Law in California

What Is A Review Board

We were told that a case was going to a review board, what does this mean. We had a stolen vehicle that when we ran a lien on it found out that it was stolen. The owners picked it up and now are sueing the person that stole it. This is going in front of a review board. Why wouldnt it just go to court?

Re: What Is A Review Board

The term "review board" is ambiguous. There are several possible meanings. Most frequently, perhaps, review boards are used by goivernment agencies to handle internal discipline matters. An example might be a police department having a panel of high-ranking officers to review an officer's use of deadly force or being involved in a high-speed chase.

I believe "review board" is often also used as the name for a panel within an administrative agency such as the Department of Motor Vehicles to make, or to review another official's making, a discretionary determination.

So, possibly the DMV is reviewing the ownership or title status of the vehicle in question. This in only a guess.

I have done a brief search in the WestLaw on-line data base using the search terms "review board" "motor vehicle" and "stolen," and haven't come up with anything more definite.
