Legal Question in Business Law in California

Scholarship Award

How would a business go about creating a scholarship award? I would like to put a portion of a promotion towards a scholarship award to give to a person attending school. What needs to go into making it possible? What information can you give me in regards to anything involving a scholarship award?

Re: Scholarship Award

I think I would start by discussing the mechanics of scholarships with the scholarships or financial aid officer of the school you have in mind, or if you don't have a particular college in mind, select a nearby college that isn't too big and bureaucratic to be interested in your project.

The next thing I would do is make sure there are no aspects of an illegal raffle or lottery clinging to your concept; i.e. that it is meant to be charitable and the award of the prize is not based upon someone obtaining a chance to win in exchange for a valuable consideration.
