Can you sign contract under a nickname?
Is there a law that says we always have to sign contract using the exact legal name shown on our Driver's License or Social Security Card? Because I've been using a nickname in business (and since I keep the same last name, the banks told me I don't need to file a DBA, in fact, I can get paid/cash checks under this nickname and I never filed a DBA).

I use this nickname on my business cards and all email correspondences with clients, and this nickname is even printed on my personal checks. But I am wondering why everybody seems to sign contracts using their exactly legal name?

Can I enter into contract using my nickname because from my understanding, we can call ourselfves anything we want as a common law right.

Especially since I am using my legal last name (I only varied my first name because I just don't like my legal first name) and have been told by banks that I do not need to file a DBA?

No; however, in some instances the people with whom you enter into contracts may insist that you use your legal name.
