Legal Question in Business Law in California
I signed a contract with a consultant who agreed to provide me with a two hour consult for a fee. However, the contract was in the form of a letter from the consultant's secretary with no signature but only the secretary's name typed at the bottom of the letter. I was the only one signing the contract. I'd like to know if this document is a legal contract because the consultant failed to provide me with the agreed service. Thank you.

Well, I would need to read a few more facts. One way to look at this communication is that hte consultant made an offer and by your signature, you accepted the offer which forms a basis for a contract...and yes, I would need to read all of the communicaitons to offer a more useful answer.

No communication resulting herein shall create an attorney-client relationship unless a separate retainer agreement is signed by attorney and client. Did you pay for the service? Did the consultant not perform at all or was it not an acceptable level of service? You may indeed have a contract but more background is needed. Sorry, but more info is sometimes necessary to help.
If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me by phone or email.
