Legal Question in Business Law in California
Hi I am a small business owner, and a local newspaper, will not accept my advertisement, stating that a competitor ran up a bill and never paid, so they are no longer accepting my type of business, which is Spiritual advice and counseling. My question is, isnt there a law that says a newspaper has to accept your ad? Commercial Speech? Any info would be great, maybe a link to a federal act or ordinance

There is no such law. The paper's decision doesn't make much sense to me, but it is not required to make sensible decisions.
Why not just pay for the add up front so there is no issue.
The paper's decision doesn't make any sense to me either.You're a different company and apparently not related to the competitor who ran up a bill - a mistake that's the paper's, and has nothing to do with you. As another advised, why not pay in advance for the ad,so their are no billing concerns. After you establish a good credit standing, you can talk about extending payment terms. You can also seek the advice of an attorney in your area.
