Legal Question in Business Law in California

Small claims against a CA company filed in IL

I want to sue the moving company in San Jose CA who moved my belongings to Chicago, IL. THey violated numerous of our agreements and my items arrived damaged and many expensive items were missing. I filed a claim with them and they are offering 1/100 of the value. Can I sue a CA company in small claims in the state of Illinois? If i need to hire a lawyer do i need a CA lawyer or IL? What type of attorney (area of practice) do i need?

Re: Small claims against a CA company filed in IL

If you filed in Small Claims you would need to file in California because that is were the corporation is. However you are limited to $5000 in damages. You stated that many valuables were missing and broken so I am assuming the cost of replacing these items exceed $5,000. You would need to hire a California attorney to file a Breach of Contract lawsuit against the corporation. I actually specialize in Business and Contract law and I practice throughout the state. The main advantage of hiring an attorney is that you would only have to travel to California if the case went to trial which does not happen 90% of the time. I can handle the matter for you on a contigency basis which means I take a percentage of the settlement or judgment at the end of the case.
