Legal Question in Business Law in California

I want to start a company. About 50 percent of my supplies come from recycled products. The goal of my company is to in 5 years be 100 percent green. meaning that By then i want 100% of the supplies i use and sell to come from recycled sources. Most the stuff i would be selling would be paper. and plastic spyrals binds. some of the things wont be possible to be recycled like toner but i would use a program that recycles the old cartridges. So my question is, can i legally put in my logo eco friendly or environmental friendly? In the about us section I would write the goal of the company. and have a section that tracks our progress to the road to 100% eco friendly.

More likely than not, the answer would be "yes". The suggested terms that you recommend, "eco friendly ...environmental friendly" are generic terms usually not subject to any trademark protection. I would assume that you have already had a business attorney work with you on your business model and business plan to develop your intellectual property...yes?

Sounds legal to me. The terms are too generic for anyone to claim a trademark, but I would suggest you collect and save documentation establishing any percentage of recycled raw material that goes into your product. You might also consider business insurance with some protection against product liability claims.
