Legal Question in Business Law in California

I would like to start a computer repair business in California but I'm not sure if I need a license from the state of California (Bureau of Electronics and Appliance Repair) to do it. From what I've gathered, I won't need a license UNLESS I make over 500 dollars per customer. I know this is true for "contractors", but does this law apply to someone offering computer repair services as well ?

thanks

There is no dollar threshold for the requirement that you register with the BEAR. Anyone doing electronics repair must hold a BEAR license. Unlike building contractors, however, the BEAR license has no experience or testing requirements. It is purely a registration license, like a business license. Unless you are disqualified from holding a state professional license, such as for non-payment of child support, it is granted automatically.

As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. You need to comply with BEAR to get their license. You also need to get a standard business license from your city. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
