Legal Question in Business Law in California

I want to start a small "summer camp" this summer with no more than 4 kids. I have planned out a calendar/schedule of what we will be doing including field trips... what is the risk to me and do you think that it is neccessary to go through the legalities (and money) of opening a limited liability company? I was hoping to market it more as babysitting but was hoping to get advice about whether or not this can leave me in too much of a volunerable position.

As any attorney will tell you, there are numerous risks of operating any business that involves children. They can slip and fall, etc. and you get sued. That said, the way to protect yourself is with adequate liability insurance, with a large limit (say $5 million or so). Many entrepreneurs handle risk this way and operate as a sole proprietorship, eliminating the complexity and ongoing costs of doing business as a corporation or LLC. Consult with an attorney in your area for specific advice.
