I was told I was fired but I was to stay on until he had my replacement. Can I file for unemployment as thought I was fired that day?

No. Your eligibility begins when you're no longer employed or being paid. Merely being told that you are going to *become* unemployed is not enough. Besides, it would be unjust to let you collect unemployment while you are still receiving your paycheck.
The other attorney is right on point. It's common sense - you can't collect a paycheck and unemployment at the same time. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.

Collecting unemployment while still receiving compensation and performins services for an employer would be illegal double-dipping.
