Legal Question in Business Law in California
Wrongful lay offs
I work for a retail shoe store. We are storing another sotres product in our store room. We are not to touch this product! Someone is tampering with the product. Nothing has been stolen and no boxes have been opened but the tape that is holding all the boxes together has been tampered with. We have been told by our store manager that unless someone admits to playing with the tape we will all be given 0 hours until this is figured out or our positions are refilled. Nothing has been stolen or opened. Shouldn't this be a write-up offense? I haven't touched these boxes yet I am at risk of losing my hours and possibly my job. Is this legal?

Re: Wrongful lay offs
Your employer is required to pay you for the hours you have worked.
Re: Wrongful lay offs
Unless you have an employment contract, which deals with this, or a collective bargaining agreement which defines these terms, you are just an employee at will and can be terminated for any reason, or no reason whatsoever.
