Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Asked for ID when not the driver
The other night me and my friend were pulled over on the side of the road, just talking. A local police officer asked us what we were doing and asked for both of our ID's. Was it legal for him to take my ID even though I was not driving?

Unfortunately the Supreme Court said that even if you are walking down the street minding your own business, you must comply with an officer's request to produce identification.
a tip:
If you are ever approached by an officer who asks, "Your eyes are bloodshot, have you been drinking?"
Do not reply, "Your eyes looked glazed, have you been eating donuts?"
