Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Ex boyfriend owes me money

My ex-boyfriend was in sales and made a lot of money, but since his job slowed down within the past year and a half he asked if i could lend him money for bills, rent, and etc. I agreed to pay for them as long he promised to pay me back, which he swore he would. During that time I realized that he was financially irresponsible and had cheated on me within the first year of our relationship. Since then I told him I never wanted to be back with him or talk to him, unless its about him paying back t. Since then he's been threatening not to pay me back, unless I get back with him. I am currently in major debt with no money to pay the bills because i've been a full time student and pretty much lent him my savings and he maxed out a credit I authorized for him to use.- is there any chance i can recover the money i've lent him? Its way over 5k on a credit card and cash.

Small claims court. Watch Judge Judy, etc. for pointers on how or how not to present your case.

Small claims court is a good option if you need to sue (up to $7500 for an individual)--cheap, don't need a lawyer, and easy and fast. You can find information on filing a small claims case at: http://www.occourts.org/civil/smclaims.asp#.
