Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

In California, I have a contract (he is not a company and neither am I) with an individual that after his case settles, I will receive a certain percentage because of the work I am performing for him, in the process, I am not being paid anything but, what I would like to know is; am I able to take this person to civil court if they tell me "I don't need you anymore"? and in the process, the person is harassing, threatening and belittling me (using profanity). If so, could I file in for over $25,000 (Unlimited) because, the percentage that I am due is well over $25,000.

I am just unsure because the contract does say that I cannot be paid until his cases settle.

No attorney is going to attempt to interpret your contract without having read it. Where did you get this contract? If you had an attorney draft it for you, as you should do in every situation involving serious money, ask the attorney. If the other guy's attorney drafted it, consult an independent attorney. Assuming your contract has an attorney fee clause in it, you will be able to collect your attorney fees in addition to your percentage.
