civil law question

what happens if I accept a court summons that had my address listed on it but not it was not for me, am I liable to appear in court?

Usually, summonses don't have a person's address on them. The complaint might have the address.

If you're not the named defendant in the lawsuit, then unless it's an unlawful detainer (eviction) lawsuit, you're not a party. If it is an unlawful detainer, there should have been attached a prejudgment claim form. Most courts have eviction help clinics that could guide you through the process of completing the form and filing an answer. Don't ignore it if you're a tenant or occupant.
