Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Computer ownership
Dear reader,
Recently, I had a friend purchase a laptop computer for me and I am paying it in three installments, with the third payment in a few days after the first of the year. Would legal ownership of the computer transfer to me after that final payment is made, even though his name is on the receipt? Would he have any legal right to restrict the usage of the computer, even if living in the same house?

Re: Computer ownership
You would want to have him sign a paper transfering ownership to you. Even a simple handwritten, signed and dated document would do. Then the computer would be yours, and you would have all rights and privileges of ownership.
