Your legal remedy is to obtain a restraining order. Since you used to date this person, you may be able to obtain an order under California's "domestic violence restraining order" laws.
You should block this person's E-mail, telephone number, and other means of contacting you first -- it's simpler, and if it is insufficient, the Court will take that into consideration in deciding to grant a restraining order.
Best of luck to you.
