Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

I was detained forcefully in a hospital without signing papers agreeing to pay for services (suspicion for pill poisoning/overdose) . I recently received the bills for 7,000 dollars, do I have to pay for their charges, even though I asked to receive medical treatment someplace else and told them that I didn't want blood work to be done? They called the police, so that they could force me on a 72 hour hold, prior to that they took my clothing, wallet and personal things away so that I couldn't leave.

I'm not sure how to deal with this, I barely work and go to school full time, so it would be impossible to pay bills that I never agreed to.

You are responsible for your own behavior. If you voluntarily took an overdose of pills, you were a danger to yourself, you were properly hospitalized, and you owe them the money. If you have medical insurance, maybe your medical insurance carrier has an agreement with the hospital to treat you for less. Ask your carrier. Don't do this again.
