Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Discrimination
5 Years ago I applied for the local sheriffs department. During the process you are told to be completely honest or you will be black balled from all departments. On the application there are many questions that reach into a persons personal life. Again you are told it is to see if you are an honest person or not. I checked the box that asked if ''You have ever had sexual relations with a minor. I checked yes because when I was 19 I had sexual intercourse with my then 16-17 year old girlfriend. During the background investigation I stated I had had another sexual relationship with a minor when I was 20 she was 17. I was arrested during my background investigation for checking the yes box on the application, charged with 5 felonies and convicted of 1. I am the only person that has ever been arrested during a background investigation with this department. My friend applied at the same time, checked the same box and was only disqualified. My father was a sergeant for the dept at the time.
