Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Does a employer have the right to fire a employee for any reason. And if so would I have the legal right to challenge this.I have been working at a large oil company for two years, I have not missed any work days, nor have I had any disciplinary action against me until recently.I am challenging this now.I feel that I am being pushed out of my job for personal reasons.I had asked for a job change, that my supervisor's son now has. he was not working when I asked for this job.I complained, suddenly I have problems
