Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Harassment at Kmart Store

I was in the process of purchasing items at the checkout. When for no reason my credit card and driver license was taken out my procession for longer than 20min. The women that were in front of me did not have any problems. It was taken to the back of store, not the customer service desk. There is so much fraud going on these days I don't don't if I'm a victum of it or not. I wrote a letter to the president of the company and I have not heard and response form them as of yet. I would like to know what futher steps I can take. I do have witnesses also.

Re: Harassment at Kmart Store

First check with your credit card company and see if any unauthorized charges were made. Out of an abundance of caution, you might ask, or the card company may suggest that you cancel the card and get one with a new number. It would be a good idea to check your credit reports with all three bureaus (Experian, Equifax and Trans Union). Pay particular attention to any unfamiliar accounts that appear that may appear and check the inquiries section to see if any recent applications for credit have been made that were not initiated by you. The credit bureaus can put fraud alerts on your reports which means that before any credit is extended, the lender must first make direct contact with you. You are right to be suspicious about this. It seems odd.
