When a lawyer places a lien on a case to collect fees, after they have resigned, do they have to file the lien with the courts?
Can a lawyer file a lien against me to collect fees, if my case was never filed?

If your previous attorney has a lien against your case, and there is no lawsuit filed, he can notify the new attorney and the other party's attorney of his lien to place them on notice of his claim.
