Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

legality of law enforcements release of information...

At 3:00am this morning I received a call from an officer stating a friend of mine that had left my home earlier that evening had been arrested for smoking methamphetamine and would I come pick him up? I explained I had a son in bed asleep and had drunken earlier in the night and didn't believe I was ok to drive. He thanked me for my honesty and said he would call his parents. My friend is almost 40 yrs old and his Mother is very ill with Cancer, I certainly hope this man wouldn't call her at 3 am? Does the police dept have the right to do this, call and disclose information that I would think would at the very least be considered undetermined until he received his full due process? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Thanks for clearing this up for me. It's been really bothering me all day and I seem to be just getting more disgusted by the moment.

What the police did is surely preferable to their keeping him in the slammer.

Now get rid of all your meth and other contraband before the cops show up.
