Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

How do I legally go about obtaining my personal belongings from the home I was living in with my then girlfriend in the state of CA. When I was kicked out of the house she immediately changed the locks on the doors and alarm code so I could not get my things. I have made several attempts to arrange a time for me to come get my things or meet with her away from the home to get them but she continues to not be home when we arrange or cancel. She is now telling me that I can not have my things. She is the legal owner of the home and all I have is my bills and other mail that was going to the house to prove I was living there, as well as receipts for some of my belongings. What are my rights to obtain my personal belongings back? Can I contact the sheriff to escort me to the home to get them? Or am I going to be forced to get a lawyer and go to court?

Try setting up a time of exchange and asking teh sheriff for a civil stand-by, and notify teh ex that you have done so. Otherswise, court may be your option.
