Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Can a natural person use any name he or she chooses? If so, how can the government force that person to use a proscribed name? Specifically, the Dept of Motor Vehicles likes to force people to use a name of DMV's choosing. Why does DMV presume to have the power to do this?

You can use any name you wish as long as it is not done for the purpose of defrauding anyone. I do not know what you mean that the DMV selects a name that you can only use.
