Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Hi. I am a nurse who works in inpatient Detox/Treatment for alcohol/drug addiction. I recently quit a job after 5 days. Before I started they had me sign this contract that I agree to a working lunch, I didn't know that it meant no lunch break, but they take money out anyway. So my last shift was a 13 hr. Day with no break. I stated to the manager that I was starving as well as I needed to actually step away from work for my legal lunch break of 1 hour. She stated that I take a fifteen minute break here and there. They had no break room either and you could not leave the premises. I told her that for my sanity and health that I needed my full lunch break that I was due, but because of the crazy contract I signed they didn't care or octet a solution. Then after I resigned I got a text from the Lead nurse who had trained me and then quit. The text from him was a screen shot of a text the manager had sent him. She mentioned what I didn't do on my 13hr. shift (no time) and gave him the reasons why I quit from my resignation letter in her own slanted description. This was so disturbing to get this text from a stranger from my previous manager. I have a screen shot of the text she sent the Lead nurse. What can I do about these things? Please advise and thank you!

I assume that you are in California and that you were an exempt employee, which is true for most nurses n California.

You really need to speak to an employee-side attorney labor lawyer here. You may have claims for unpaid lunch breaks and unpaid overtime. No attorney will opine on the subject in a public forum due to confidentiality concerns.

Best of luck to you.
