Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

posting on internet d/l#, address and description by county

While checking the county internet site for penal and vehicular court case filings and hearings I discovered information that is not available to the public. To get this information from the dept of motor vehicles requires a fee and disclosure of your purpose and must notify you of the release of this information.

The new stalking laws prohibit the release of the above mentioned information and as I am in a being stalked situation it has me deepley troubled. The only thing not disclosed is the soc.sec.# easily gained from any number of sources. This also provides nearly all the information an identity thief needs to obtain your credit for themselves.

The argument may be the posting is only for those who break the law but who hasen't exceded the speed limit.

Is there a class or private action in proceeding against a county for their disclosure of private information?

Generally any thing filed with a court is a public document and can be viewed by anyone. This is gauranteed by the California and United States Constitution. What you can do is contact the court and ask them is they can "redact" (the legal term for blacking out confidential information) address and phone number information.
