Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Privacy violation/ fingerprinting at business to ID

Is it legal for a business to insist on fingerprinting a client for identification? And to refuse business if the client declines on account of privacy violation?

It won't be too long until this gets in the an unethical technologically savvy employee--name removed--hand who has all your information plus fingerprint. Can anything be done about this? Thank you

I'm not sure I completely understand your question. I don't know if there's a law against fingerprinting clients. I, for one, certainly would object and refuse permission as an extreme invasion of privacy. You have the right not to patronize a merchant who insists on doing so.

Then, again, when you have to notarize a deed, the notary takes your fingerprint -- a requirement. Often a bank will require a fingerprint on the back of a check being cashed if you're not a bank customer.
