Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

rented a truck from Budget Rental for moving. During move the battery died and we called Budget for roadside assistance. The guy took about 3 1/2 hours to get there and said there was no charge. His company then turned the bill over to Budget (which added $50.00 to the bill) and we received a bill for $253.00. They said reason was because driver was stuck in heavy traffic. Also an extra $11.00 was added for parts. What part's??? It was a jump.

It's hard to believe they would charge you for this.

Roadside assistance for many rental companies is optional. If you did not take the option when you signed the contract, it will be an extra charge. You should look at the terms of your contract.

You may be able to argue that Budget turned the car over to you without a fully charged battery, and that you should not have to pay. This may be difficult to prove, and will definitely depend on the facts of your case.

There is also a possibility that your own car insurance or your own AAA will cover this charge, or that the credit card you used has a feature to cover this kind of problem. You should investigate this possibility.
