Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Search of vehicle at a state prison
Is it legal for the state to open sealed, stamped, mail addressed to someone else besides me during a search of my vehicle? I was not the sender or the receiver of the mail.

Re: Search of vehicle at a state prison
Usually only the person whose privacy rights are being invaded has standing to object to an unlawful search. . .
Your question falls more into the realm of criminal law, and if you have been arrested and have been charged with a crime you may be able to suppress the evidence gained from the envelope as well as evidence learned resulting from the contents of the envelope.
