Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Getting served?

If the subpoena got sent to my parents house but I already moved out and neither my family or the server had a way of contacting me, what happens if I don't show up in court? I'm on bad terms with my family but could be getting a subpoena in the next few weeks. I've already moved out of there and I'm not going to sit around waiting for a subpoena that may or may not come. What will happen? My credit cards, bank account, etc are all already listed under a different address than my family's house, the address I live at now. But the person that wants to sue me thinks I still live there as I just moved out of the house yesterday. What's going to happen?

Re: Getting served?

You're talking about a summons and complaint, that is, a lawsuit. You can see if the court where you lived has a web site and you could see what's been happening with the case, perhaps by plugging in your name.

You probably would not want to ignore a lawsuit because if the plaintiff claims it was properly served and you don't answer, the plaintiff could get a judgment against you and try to make your life miserable.
