Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Store security detained customer unlawfully

I was picking up a will call from Home Depot and I had taken the items up to the cashier with my will call slip and reciept. I purchased another item i needed and showed the paperwork to the cashier before i left the store. The cashier recieved a call from the ''store manager'' who asked what i was purchasing. It was really security calling her and she replied ''are you coming down to check it out.'' I then asked her if i should wait for the manager to come and check out my purchase and will call items. She said ''no'' everything is ok you can go''. I left and was promptly handcuffed when i stepped outside of the Home Depot doors. They detained me in a security room for about an hour and were accusing me of trying to steal the items. I told them i had the reciept but they weren't paying any attention to it. Finally after an hour they let me go. presumably they went to ask the will call desk if there was an order. Can i sue these assholes for the hour that i had to listen to all the harrassment and the fact that they went through my cell phone numbers and my wallet as if they had a right.

Yes you can sue them, and yes you would have a false imprisonment case. If you would like to speak with me regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me.

Sounds like a terrific false imprisonment lawsuit, go for it. Watch out for legal time limits.

Yes!

While it is not a big case, you do have a case.
