Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
I have a story I want to tell about someone to the news, he was contacted by the news after I started to tell. He contacted me and begged me not to tell. I said ok if you give me money. He said ok then said no what your doing is illegal, your getting nothing and said I am unable now to tell because I asked for money. Even if I dont take the money am I committing a crime of extortion?

Sounds like extortion to me. Be cautious of this in the future. Extortion is a serious crime. Either tell the news what you know or don't tell the news but don't extort in order to stay out of legal trouble.
