Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Can I sue Amazon for stealing? I sold a book for .50 they charged the buyer 3.99 for shipping.
I had to purchase the shipping stamp through Amazon which cost me 2.77 thus leaving me in the negative .70 cents because Amazon took a very hefty fee. The problem is they wrote
My earnings $2.07 which is a total lie
I have sold 6 books this week on Amazon. How can they do this?
Order date: 02/20/2011
Buyer's price: $0.50
Amazon commission: -$2.42
Shipping credit: $3.99
Your earnings: $2.07

You would not want to go to the court, spend at least $75 in small claims, plus gas, and plus your time, just for 70 cents. Nobody would do that. It is outrageous and I had the same experience before. You can try to talk to Amazon customer service but it probably would not do you any good. You can sell them on ebay instead of Amazon. The other option is to raise the price next time to cover the commission. Amazon in its seller agreement disclosed the commission such that you expressly or impliedly agreed to the commission anyway. Just calm down.
