Re: being sued by city

1. If the matter could possibly be covered by your homeowners', renters' or auto insurance, call the insurance carrier and make a claim, they will respond.

2. If not, consult a lawyer, don't try and file a legal response yourself, you could do it incorrectly and face a default judgment, or you could omit something and thereby give up some or all of your rights.

3. You have 30 days or les from the date you receive the summons and complaint to file a legal response with the court, or else. Calling or writing letters to the court is the same as doing nothing.

4. Do not call, or get legal advice from, the city attorney, they are the ones who are suing you. Do not discuss the matter with anybody except an attorney you yourself have hired or consulted with.

5. Do not delay contacting me, or some other attorney. Do not call an attorney on day 29 and expect him or her to file a response on day 30.
