Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
If you are suing a company for $5000 for a defective product you bought but found out (before you sue them) it's worth $8000. Are you only entitled to what you paid?

Depends if you were anticipating to sell the product, or you had some idea that the product could be worth more to you, or if replacement cost is more. Many judges will not give more than $5000, but only with an extremely gifted lawyer like myself would you have a chance of getting more than $5000.
