Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
talking off the record
I filed a missing report on my 19 yr old daughter.9 months later her boyfriend killed his brother. The dead mans roommate told Dect he was killed because he found out his brother killed my daughter and was going to the police. There is no statement on file from the roommate.
Could this man go in and tell a dect about a murder, not wanting to get involved and talk off the records, why would their not be a statement?

Re: talking off the record
Nothing is ever off the record with the police. If he knows what happened, he is a material witness and the police can question him. If he won't talk voluntarily, he can be subpoenaed. Call the police and pass along the information and let them handle it.
