Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

One week ago my friends and I had a party at our house and the police were called due to a noise complaint. We were let off with nothing but a warning, one police officer insisted that we not have another party ever again, while the actual warning was a 24 hour warning. They stated that if they came back within 24 hours each of us on the lease would have a $1000 fine. Last night we had people over again in an attempt to be quieter than the week before. After about 2 hours the police were called again. They had everyone leave and gave all of us $1000 fines for hosting the party. There are 5 of us on the lease, and 8 living in the house. We were under the impression that we could have people over since it had been longer than 24 hours. We are appealing the fines within the next two days since we were only given 10 days to pay. We were extremely cooperative and had no problems either of the times the police were there. Do you think we have a case to possibly not have to pay these ridiculous fines or at least do community service instead somehow? Thanks.

You guys obviously have neighbors that do not want to be distrurbed with loud goings-on.

From now on: talk only, no loud music. In other words, act responsibly.

Now as to your fines: if the Court finds you guilty tell the judge you dont't have the money and they will likely give you community service.

You can plead not guilty and ask for a Court appointed attorney to represent you. You must then disclose your income or lack thereof and attempt to qualify with Revenue and Recovery. Good Luck.
