The repair firm has a lien for the fair value of services provided under Civil Code section 3051. Under Civil Code 3052, the repairer can sell the item after only ten days after the repair charges become due. There are also some notice requirements set forth in the statute (newspaper announcements, posting signs, etc.). If the item sells for more than enough to cover the repair bill and the costs of sale, you are entitled to the excess.
