Digital music

What can you do with a cd under the copyright law. I legally bought a Microsoft Office Suite and some Mexcian people broke in to my house and stole the cd. Legally can they install the software on their computer?

Re: Digital music

Shame on you for the ethnic slur. The answer is the same if the thieves are Norwegian or Martian. A thief has no right to stolen property, except the right of the first thief is superior to that of someone who steals from him. You need to contact the police and Microsoft.

Re: Stolen Microsoft Software

I am not sure why the thieves ethnic identity is relevant. But stolen goods are stolen goods regardless of whether it is a CD, a TV or jewelry. They have as much right to use that CD, as they would have to wear stolen jewelry. If they also have stolen the registration/ activation codes and you have already registered the product, then you need to contact the police, Microsoft and perhaps the BSA (Business Software Alliance) to notify them that the software has been stolen and you are not responsible for mass copying and distribution of the software.
